Prerequisite notes for advanced statistical mechanics

This note rebuilds the undergraduate thermodynamics and statistical physics baseline: laws of thermodynamics, thermodynamic potentials, Maxwell relations, phase transitions, irreversible processes, ensembles, and quantum statistics. It is meant to support later advanced statistical mechanics review, not to serve as a transcript.

Draft 27p expanded PDF draft
Attribution: The checked public Bilibili HTML and player API subtitle fields were empty. The public API exposed the course title, uploader, part list, and p=2 chapter points. Therefore this TeX/PDF is an original review draft organized by the course outline, public textbook/courseware scope, and standard undergraduate material. Its TeX project structure is inspired by Muatyz/review-sheet, but the full Muatyz TeX source is not vendored here.

Current Coverage

01 thermodynamic laws Equilibrium, temperature, quasistatic processes, work, entropy, free energy.
02 homogeneous systems Euler relation, Gibbs-Duhem, Maxwell relations, response functions.
03 phase transitions Phase equilibrium, Clapeyron equation, Landau picture.
04 statistical principles Boltzmann entropy, Gibbs entropy, microcanonical/canonical/grand canonical ensembles.
05 Distributions and fluctuations Irreversible processes, most probable distribution, Boltzmann, Bose/Fermi, fluctuation-response.

Live Update Area

  • 2026-06-20: Generated the first 15-page TeX/PDF draft based on p=2 1.1-1.4 and the undergraduate thermodynamics/statistical-physics backbone.
  • Next: send specific video notes or confusion points, and I will append them to the matching TeX chapter and recompile the PDF.
